PASTOR MIKE'S CHURCH STARTED WITH a handful of people meeting out of his home. He holds two services with a thousand people in each service. Mike's flock go home after a time of worship, yet respond to life no differently than their un-churched neighbors....

Where is the transforming power of the Holy Spirit?

To help his church grow, Pastor Mike covets a good reputation by rubbing elbows with the un-churched "movers and shakers" of the community. He is concerned with what they think of what he is doing...

Where is the transforming power of the Holy Spirit?

Pastor Mike's church is known as a "spiritual" church, concerned about people: Just look at all the programming and people and recognition's and wonderful works....

Where is the transforming power of the Holy Spirit?

The church today is like the church in Revelation two versus one through five: doing many things for God, but not in His power.

In other words, the church today "builds" a church in the same manner as one builds a business: develop a plan, hire the building crew, hire programming, marketing, and fundraising people and then put forth all the effort that can be mustard to make it happen....

The question remains: where is the transforming power of the Holy Spirit?

Why isn't God able to do what He has always done in centuries past: build His church and draw all men to it? Why does God need our help?

The bottom line is-- God doesn't need our help. He is not concerned with our building the biggest, the best, and the better. He is concerned with our knowing Him and allowing Him to work through us.

The church today is busy working for God, yet God cannot work through the church because of our busyness. We must "let go" and "let God."

Revelation two verse five gives the key for letting go: "Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works...."

We must learn to enter God's actual presence, know His presence, and live daily in His presence. God is more than building programs, programming, and social concern. These often distract us from knowing that God is with us.

It is time to return to God and make our churches houses of prayer.

It is past time to return to our own secret closet and develop an actual relationship with an actual God who is actually there.

It is time to return to our first love.

Love of goals instead of the actual God leads to various corruptions. One of these is thinking that prosperity is equivalent to God's favor. This will be explained further in Myth #2.
