THE REAL QUESTION THAT CONCERNS many is knowing
whether we are living in the last of the last days: the days when the
Antichrist will rise up, the great tribulation will take place, Christ will
return, and the world will be renewed in a great ball of fire.
What does the Bible say? Are we living in the very last days of our worlds
The prophet Daniel is a clear voice on where we are on the prophetic time clock.
In chapter two of Daniel, Daniel takes in hand a task that none of the other
wise men of Babylon would consider. None of the magicians, astrologers,
sorcerers, or Chaldeans would even attempt to tell King Nebuchadnezzar the
interpretation of his dream unless the king first revealed the dream..
Neither would Daniel attempt such a feat if he had not known the giver and
interpreter of dreams. Daniel made it clear to the King that no man is able to
tell the dream, but God alone:
Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the
king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the
soothsayers, show unto the king; But there is a God in heaven that revealeth
secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter
days. (Daniel 2:27-28)
The dream was given to the King to show him the nations that would rise up from
his time until the day that God would establish His kingdom of righteousness,
justice, and mercy:
As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should
come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what
shall come to pass. (Daniel 2:29)
Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without
hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver,
and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass
hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
In this dream the King saw a great statue. He was the head of gold. Babylon
would be brought to ruin by another kingdom represented as silver (the Medes and
Persians). A third kingdom of brass (the Greeks) would conquer the Persians and
control the known world. The Greeks would lay down their power at the feet of a
ruthless kingdom represented as iron (the Roman Empire). This mighty empire
would break apart and become a divided empire, represented by the two legs
revealing the nation states of eastern and western Europe. The kingdom of
the Anti-Christ would then rise up represented by the feet and toes of iron and
clay revealing that the kingdom would be partly strong and partly weak. It is
during this time, when the Roman Empire is revived, that God will destroy all
these kingdoms and establish His kingdom.
Nebuchadnezzar was given the dream to show him the rise and fall of nations to
the end of the world. When we picture a statue with the head as the beginning
and the toes as the end, it is clear that we are most definitely living in the
last of the last days. You and I may very well be the very last Christian that
those around us may ever know. These are not times to be slack. We must be about
the fathers business of calling others to prepare for the coming of Christ.
The witness of Scripture is clear: Yes, we are living in the last days of the
Scripture also gives witness to three ages of sorrow that the world will pass
through. You should find this intriguing.
We will look at these three ages of sorrow in lesson three.
Hold fast till Christ returns!
